Attorney

The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) is a nonprofit health advocacy organization headquartered in Washington, D.C. PCRM has the dual missions of promoting preventive medicine through advocacy of a plant-based diet and promoting higher ethical standards in medical research, testing, and education through furthering nonanimal research methods.

PCRM is seeking candidates for a full-time attorney in PCRM’s legal department. The attorney will develop and implement new precedent-setting legal campaigns, which will involve an active litigation practice in state and federal courts in support of PCRM’s missions. PCRM is engaged in class actions and other types of advocacy litigation against some of the largest corporations in the United States and against the U.S. government. PCRM’s cases raise challenging constitutional, statutory, and procedural issues, many of first impression.

Qualified candidates must have litigation experience; must possess excellent legal writing, research, analytical, and oral advocacy skills; must be able to adapt to changing priorities; and must be self-directed, well organized, resourceful, productive, creative, and aggressive.

Requirements

  • Five or more years experience
  • Active member of a state or federal bar
  • Significant litigation experience, including substantial role in complex matters
  • Science background, experience in federal administrative law, and personal involvement in matters relevant to PCRM’s missions a plus

Term of Employment: Full-time in PCRM’s Washington, D.C. office (Friendship Heights neighborhood/metro).

Compensation: Competitive nonprofit salary commensurate with experience plus a comprehensive benefits package.
