The Physicians Committee

Medical Doctor

About the Physicians Committee

The Physicians Committee is a nonprofit organization working toward compassionate and effective medical practice, research, and health promotion. Since 1985, the Physicians Committee has led the way for reforms of federal nutrition policies, and our clinical research programs are breaking new ground in diabetes, cancer, and other serious medical conditions. We have fought for an emphasis on prevention, higher ethical standards in research, and scientific advances in basic research and effective drug development. Over the years, we have taken on battles to end ethically questionable experiments involving children and inhumane animal experiments and have worked to improve science education. We have worked with physicians, federal regulators, politicians, researchers, educators, students, and concerned citizens. And we have so much more work to do.

About this Career Opportunity

After nearly 30 years of clinical research and preventive medicine advocacy and education, the Physicians Committee will be expanding our life-saving work by opening a medical clinic to help even more people reverse diabetes, lose weight, lower cholesterol, and prevent cancer. We are looking for physicians to treat patients at this new primary care medical clinic based at our Washington DC headquarters and to work with them to not only treat but also prevent chronic diseases, with a strong focus on diabetes, obesity, hypertension, high cholesterol, and other nutrition-related disorders.

In addition to clinical work, Physicians Committee staff physicians will contribute a portion of their time to the organization’s initiatives to educate physicians, health care professionals, legislators, and the public about plant-based nutrition and serve as spokespersons for our campaigns and programs. This is a full-time position located at the Physicians Committee’s headquarters in Washington, D.C.

Qualifications

The Physicians Committee is fast paced, ambitious, and tenacious – we are looking for a team player who will tackle his or her work with a sense of urgency, persistence and vigor and a dedication to sound science and preventive medicine. If you share these qualities, are board-certified in internal medicine, pediatrics, or other relevant specialty, have appropriate postgraduate training, excellent written and verbal communication skills, a strong interest in plant-based diets, and a desire to help make the field of medicine one that emphasizes prevention over treatment, we'd like to hear from you.

Compensation and Benefits

This position offers competitive compensation, with the possibility of bonuses, and a comprehensive benefits package. The Physicians Committee also supports continuing medical education and professional development.

How to Apply

In your cover letter, please tell us about your experience treating diabetes, obesity, hypertension, high cholesterol, or other nutrition-related disorders, your interest in plant-based diets and preventive medicine and how you found out about this opportunity. Send your cover letter and resume to careers@pcrm.org and reference the position title in your subject line. We look forward to hearing from you!
