PCRM Wins 2011 Alliance for Workplace Excellence Award and Health & Wellness Trailblazer Award
The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine was selected by the Alliance for Workplace Excellence as a 2011 AWE Workplace Excellence Award Winner and a 2011 AWE Health and Wellness Trailblazer. Applicants for AWE’s Workplace Excellence Award undergo a comprehensive evaluation process in order to be considered for these awards. The winners demonstrate outstanding commitment to balanced leadership and the overall success of their workforce. They are assessed in the following areas:
- Innovative corporate culture and management practices
- Family and employee friendly policies and programs
- Strong health and wellness initiatives
- Employee growth and learning opportunities
- Commitment to corporate, social and civic responsibility
- Diversity and inclusion practices
- Flexible work environment
- Safety and security
Some highlights of PCRM’s application included: our encouragement of professional development opportunities; education programs which focus on a variety of health, research, and professional topics; community engagement both with other local nonprofits and PCRM-sponsored events; and our employee recognition initiatives.

The Workplace Excellence and Health & Wellness Trailblazer Awards highlight businesses that promote professional fulfillment and personal wellness at work, at home, and in the community. All award applicants undergo a rigorous assessment process led by an independent review panel of professors, PhD professionals, and doctoral candidates in business, industrial and organizational psychology, and human resources. Excellent Workplace and Health & Wellness Trailblazer Award winners demonstrated equal merit in each of the following categories:
- Workforce demographics
- Management practices
- Employee engagement
- Corporate social responsibility
- Diversity and inclusion
- Total rewards programs and benefits
- Employee voice survey
Some highlights of PCRM’s application included: staff education sessions that focus on a variety of health, research, and professional topics; journal clubs in which staff examine articles that pertain to our mission; our vegan office environment; and a local gym discount.
