PCRM president Neal Barnard, M.D., maintained a busy media schedule during the course of the summer. With the appearance of his new book Foods That Fight Pain, Dr. Barnard appeared on Good Morning, America, Prime Time Live, and CNN, as well as on dozens of local programs in cities across the U.S. and Canada. By coincidence, the seventh edition of Dr. Spock’s Baby and Child Care came out at the same time, sparking controversy over Dr. Spock’s recommendation of a vegan diet for children. Since Dr. Barnard played a major role in this latest revision of Dr. Spock’s classic work, he was called for appearances on the Today show, NBC’s Nightside, CBS’s Up to the Minute, a national CBC broadcast, and many other programs. At the same time, an NBC Nightly News program on shocking animal tests at a New Jersey facility also called on Dr. Barnard for an interview.
