Dr. Barnard Presents Vegetarian Diets for Weight Control

Clinical studies conducted by PCRM president Neal Barnard, M.D., have convincingly shown that plant-based diets promote weight loss. On Sunday, Feb. 24, at the 6th International Congress on Vegetarian Nutrition, Dr. Barnard will discuss his findings when he presents “Vegetarian Diets for Weight Control.”

Every five years this scientific conference on the health effects of plant-based diets offers an opportunity for health professionals and researchers to learn from each other in plenary sessions, workshops, and poster presentations.

In addition to Dr. Barnard’s discussion, this year’s program, on Feb. 24-26, in Loma Linda, Calif., features presentations on how meat and dairy products increase cancer risk; the beneficial role of plant-based diets in cancer, diabetes, osteoporosis, brain function, and eyesight; and the advantages of soy in women’s health, heart disease, and prostate cancer.

Vegan Resolution: Celebrities Share New Year’s Goals

Meredith VieiraHundreds of celebrities and Facebook fans are using to share how a vegan diet will improve their new year.

The new website includes celebrity resolutions, a Facebook page, and resources including recipes and Vegan Resolution badges to use on websites, blogs, and social media sites.

“I resolve to expand my plant-based horizons by trying new and exciting recipes, experimenting more in the kitchen, and sharing my homemade meals with friends and family,” says New York Times best-selling author Kris Carr. What is former Today show co-host Meredith Vieira’s goal? “I vow to use almond milk instead of milk in my coffee,” says Vieira.

“January 1, 2013, I will be going vegan all the way,” says a Vegan Resolution Facebook fan. “I have done it off and on for a while now, but I am ready to commit both for my own health and for the health of the planet and the animals.”

Organizations, companies, and other groups that make a resolution at any time of the year are considered for inclusion on the Vegan Resolution home page.
