RE: Vegetarian Eggs?

some chickens are fed a mix of feeds that might include ground animal products. For that matter, chickens by nature are omnivorous to the extent that they are quite content not only eating corn and such but also they will chow down on bugs which means they're not totally "vegetarian" in their eating habits. Concern over feeding animals (cows, chickens, etc) feed containing ground up animal parts skyrocketed when 'mad cow disease' hit the headlines - it is often spread animal to animal by one animal eating the ground up other animal (gross I know!). Thus, you get eggs and chickens that are called "vegetarian" - the critters themselves eat only a plant based diet. --Deb R
