Hair & So On
Posted Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at 12:28 PM
Hi Everybody My name’s Theobald and I’ve just joined the forum. Some of you may be familiar with my brother Theodore who’s also a member of this forum. We’re almost identical actually. The only difference is that he’s got more hair than me. Plus he’s funnier too. But I’ve got more money. Anyway, the hair thing is kind of why I’m posting. It’s just that I’ve been on the Kickstart diet for 3 months now and it still hasn't cured my baldness. So I’m wondering how long I have to be on the plan before my hair grows back. And Is there anything I can do to speed things up ?? Any special foods I should be eating ?? Should I maybe be putting some of the food directly on my head or something ?? Any feedback would be welcome. Thanks for your time. Nice to meet you all. Theobald

Theobald, Your brother and I have chatted a few times and I am aware of his much appreciated wit. Since I don't know you yet, I cannot tell if you are jesting in order to get this board going again or if you are posing a serious question. On the chance you are serious, I would question, and like to see, any information you may have come across that would indicate ANY diet is helpful of alopecia (baldness). I am afraid I have not come across much that indicates that this is the case, unless your hair loss is not true alopecia but more a side effect of malnutrition, chemical reaction, or illness. On the upside of this question, I would tell you that I truly believe, and all of my reading seems to indicate this as well, that if any positive can be achieved for healing our bodies, it will be accomplished on low-fat, plant-based diet with moderate exercise, and de-stressing your life. Best wishes and Happy Holidays!

Lovely to meet you, Theobald. Since baldness is usually hereditary, except in cases of alopecia, I'm sorry to say that the vegan diet won't be of any use to you... no more use than it might be to cure having red hair, freckles or being white. In short, you're up a creek. However, you might enjoy this movie from the 80's, "The Peanut Butter Solution" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0089789/plotsummary

Oops, it appears that Oceandog and I have contradicted each other. I was referring to Alopecia Areata (and its other forms), an autoimmune disease that can be aggravated by stress, poor nutrition or poor self-care. Assuming that you don't have this condition, Theobald, and that your baldness is of the male-pattern variety, there is not much that can be done for it. Have you considered a lovely toupée? http://www.webmd.com/skin-problems-and-treatments/hair-loss/alopecia-areata

Theobald, I stand corrected and meant no offense about jesting. Theodore and I have, or at least I think so, a friendship with many jokes along the way. Seriously, baldness is upsetting for anyone regardless of cause. As Molly, thank you friend, stated male pattern baldness has not yet found a "cure." Personally, I have never found a bald head offensive, however, that said, I don't tend to find "comb overs" attractive a bit. My son chooses to shave his head because he has a sharp "widow's peak." Though I may be biased, I think he is quite good looking! It brings out those baby blues and dimples! I do have a book that I refer to in all things nutrition, Prescriptions for Nutritional Healing and when I have time I will take a look and see if there are recommendations in there for you. Have you discussed this with a dermatologist? If MPB does not run in your family, and you are the only one, it may be worth a visit to rule out any other causes. Should it be decided that is MPB, I think that you should go with it, keep it smooth and lovely, as many men have made that quite the style here in the States. Please let Theodore and your cousin Wendy that none of us would ever intentionally have wished to hurt either of them, and I for one, have greatly enjoyed my conversations with Theodore! He is, in fact, on my list of Must See's should I travel out of the US!

I've never heard of a dietary means of regrowing hair but as others have said I have heard of dietary or health issues leading to hair loss. Those venues would be worth checking on - seeing what is causing the hair loss and addressing that. I'm with some of the others, as well, love the shaved look, not so fond of the comb over. Hubby and I have already had this discussion because MPB is in his family (both grandfathers, his dad's hair was on the way out when he died). He's just going to shave it off when it gets to where there's more scalp than hair. Currently, he looks like Santa (except younger, not snowy white, more of the younger sandy/red haired Santa). -_Deb R

My hubby is also starting to go bald.. It is thin at the top.. he goes to the barber every 3 weeks to keep it all the same length... short.. the thinning top he keeps various lengths.. to him it looks like more hair i guess. the one "good" thing is that he has noticed hair growing in places it never did before... on the flip side, we have gone through 3 electic razors and clogged many a drain from hair gone wild. "Hair Gone Wild" sound like a bad reality video. Anyway, he was starting to look like the missing link. we still smile when we think of the movie where the guy gets waxed.. perhaps that would save the drains... it would certainly scare the cat.

LOL that's the old joke that mean don't actually lose hair - it just goes in and pops out other places! On the other hand, I've also heard it said that the reason men start balding at the top is that their heads get so full of wisdom that there's not enough hair to cover their expanded dome. --Deb R

Wendy I can see that you were offended by comments, if I was one of them, I do apologize, as I am not normally one to make harsh judgments, speak harsh words, nor am I unsympathetic to complications encountered by anyone for any reason. I tend to try to put out fires. I will certainly be even more cautious of any posts I make in the future as I would never want to be responsible for causing harm to any being. Best wishes

I read all the posts in this forum. I didn't remember the conversation; so i searched to find it. From what i gathered, Oceandog was laughed at Theodore's turn of a phrase, and his sense of humor, not by any means the actual problem. I did not take it like that at all. He started it by, "Oh Theodore, how I would love to meet you....." I thought he was more talking about Theodore's sense of humor. THen he went on to say "Okay, now back to business." to as he puts it.. "put out fires" Wendy perhaps that makes you feel better that 1) the conversation was not retained forever by everyone.. (well at least me) and 2) it was not the problem or you that caused the laugh. 3) he sincerly tired to help.

I am so confused by this thread. I can't tell who is kidding, who is serious, whose feelings are truly hurt and whose aren't. I don't know if Wendy is a real person or not, or if Theodore is actually bald and really looking for a nutritional cure. I'm being 100% serious when I say this – I'm very confused.

I'm with you Molly... I am wondering if Theodore and Theobald are one and the same. I don't mind the humor. What's life if you can't laugh? I enjoy everyone's humor. I take it with a grain of salt.. But then, it has to be something big to get to me. I think there is a wendy.. and she might have gotten her feelings hurt.. although when i searched.. i expected to find a lot of joking & carrying on about her troubles with atkins and it was not what i found at all. i was surprised she was hurt by that.. each to their own tho.. and eveyone's emotions are real for them.. cynthia

I agree Molly I am most confused as well. In the past I thought Theodore was witty and believed it to be intentional, after this thread I am unsure what to believe. I also went back and searched through the posts to see where I was offensive, and Molly you know me well, I truly try to be helpful. I did refer to being amused as to the phraseology that Theodore used, and in no way poked fun at the person and I did as suggested above and got right "back to business." In truth, in my very first post in this thread, I wondered if Theodore was "jesting" and being playful with all of us in this post. However, in the event he was not, is not, and it was indeed a brother I did try to be helpful with advice. The only thing I can see from this thread is I won't tend to be playful on this site as I would not ever wish a moment of humor on my part to hurt someone else, which I apparently did. My apologies to all involved.

Cynthia Are you just TRYING to get me in trouble? I ADORE a good laugh and I love humor and when you typed it would frighten the cat (but not hurt it!) I laughed out loud. It might need therapy? I would think that a grooming session, favorite treats and a cleared spot on a favorite warm place may be your penance for your cat! Thank you!

Hi, I have been taking Biotin 1500 mcg. for sometime and it does help. After a while you will see new hair growing.
