This thread is getting too heated. I think we need to lock this thread y'all.

I LOVE Michael Pollan. He is the one who first got me interested in the way modern food was being produced which eventually lead me to veganism. He has written An Omnivore's Dilemma, In Defense of Food (my favorite), and Food Rules. Check out the books at Amazon.com. Even though he is not vegan, he is certainly getting a lot of people to think about where their food is coming from, and that is a good thing!

There's also a guy who runs a farm called Polyface Farm that people get all whipped up about. Pollan does say "eat mostly plants," but still he pushes the animal foods. I also just read a book by Mark Bittman, who says he eats vegan all day until dinner, when he eats whatever he feels like eating ... still trying to figure that one out.

I've read about people who eat vegan during the week and then eat what they want on the weekend. Not sure what that's about.

I know when I first flirted with being vegan I would only claim to being vegan at home. I was too unsure of myself when I was not in 100% control. My wish was to be 100% vegan, but I wasn't sure I was succeeding if I didn't prepare the food myself. I've gotten over that. I now know I can eat vegan wherever I go - OR I just choose not to eat right then.

Well, I've just done some research and it does seem as if he's quite an influential figure. In fact I just spoke to a friend of mine here in London who says that Michael Pollan's the guy who inspired him to go bald. And I mean fully bald. Just like Michael. Like completely given up hair. Not just cutting down on it.

I love it, Theodore...you are hysterical! Very Happy

It makes me feel grateful for Ellen though. She seems not to be at all shy about promoting veganism. What a trouper she is. I really love that woman.

Hear Hear, Theodore. Ellen isn't shy about who she is, period. Gotta admire that, for sure.

Michael Pollan is an interesting guy alright. People like you and I (and everyone on this forum) seem to "get it" about the positive effects of veganism; however, Michael seems to want to promote the concept with baby steps. Sit on a pillow, contemplate where your food comes from, and just become more aware. Ommmmm. Good idea for those who don't believe animals suffer, or that animals are just food by any other name. I have many friends who do not want to know how that mass of muscle got onto the styrofoam tray wrapped in plastic at the supermarket. We are disconnected from our food, for sure, insofar as production is concerned, and Michael Pollan does try to influence people to at least think about where it comes from.

What did you think of the manager of the abattoir? Wasn't she just so nice?!

All we are saying is "Give Peas a Chance"
