veveveveggie Joined: 12/28/09 Posts: 114	Nice birthday lunch Posted Monday, January 11, 2010 at 2:59 PM We went to Grand Rapids, MI yesterday...a 50 mile trip. We went to Brick Road Pizza and I had a variety of delicious vegan food. It was sooo fun. I had biscuits and gravy. I was afraid it would be like the old pork stuff I use to eat, but it was creamy with a mild sage flavor. They had pizza that was curry flavored and vegan. And just a wonderful buffet of vegan delights. I live in a small town and have a difficult time getting anything but Chinese food that is restaurant made and vegan. I have been ripped off paying $8.99 for a salad that was lettuce, a few cashews and mandarine oranges. It was a great treat eating food that was deliberately vegan! I can't wait to go back. I'm still aglow and had to vent! Jean

I would think with it being a big college town there would be plenty. Check with Happy Cow. Just google vegan restaurants in Lansing and they will come up. Also in GR is Marie Catrib, Little Africa, Gia (sp.) House and other mom and pops that you can custom order. I use to get good veggie hash from Wolfgangs. Pita House on 28th St. has great falafel sandwiches. Order veggie hash without egg and cheese at Real Foods on Eastern. I use to have it easy when I lived in GR. Marie Catrib is really good, but usually a long wait to get seated. Gia House is an old stand-by vegetarian restaurant that is very good with vegans. I think Brick Road Pizza had the best selection though. They have sandwiches made with tempeh. Holland is home to one of the best vegan snack bars ... Pure ... I think it is. You would think they would know how to treat a vegan, but no! I picked up Thai food at the local restaurant and brought home stuff with fish oil or shrimp paste, yuck! Nice to meet another Michigander here. I think there are more of us. Jean

It was great hearing about the vegan eatery in GR. My daughter and family live in the area and I will definately try it out, perhaps for my birthday which is coming up on the 23rd. I have been to Maries and yes, the lines are long but sooooooooooo worth it! If anyone lives close to Ann Arbor, MI one of the best places is named Seva on E. Liberty Gramma
