I'm in for another (January's) 21-Day Kickstart

Well, I've done it again. After many failed attempts (I think I joined PCRM's very first Kickstart) I may have a better shot at it this time. With a change a few months ago in my psych meds I'm no longer taking anything that causes weight gain, or so I've been told. I can't afford to eat out as often as I was; this is a good thing because I'm able to be in better control of what I eat. At this point, I'm not sure if I feel terribly optimistic so any encouragement would be much appreciated. Confused

Every day that you go without any animal products is one day on the right path. Very few of us made it on our first try. Just like anything else the more you work at it, the better you get. I like to say that my path is one of progress, not perfection. I think it was my third kickstart before I made it all the way through and beyond, before I felt comfortable saying that I eat vegan.

Don't spend energy beating yourself up and focusing on the past. You'll do it!

Anniegoat,

It says a great deal of good things about you that after not making your goal that you keep trying. That tells me that you know the path you are on is the right one and will not let a few slips make you give up. Good for you! A lot of people just give up on themselves and others. Think of some of the great minds as well... Thomas Edison...Ben Franklin... didn't give up!

You will find as you go through this journey things that you struggle with today will fade. True that you may have a few stubborn things that stick with you (I do) but most of them will cease to be a problem. I have been at this for over 21 years and I found that one day I would just realize, when did I stop wanting/thinking/craving that? It was just gone and when faced with it, isn't even appealing!

You are definitely working on the greater good. For yourself, the planet and for the animals that trust us. At least on this path you can hold your head up and know you are not abusing this precious trust freely shared by such gentle creatures. When you beat this, yes I said WHEN, you will have the tremendous peace that comes with knowing you are causing no harm. How fabulous is that??? To wake up and know your day will not cause suffering to another creature.

I strongly encourage you to keep going and keep moving forward.

Best wishes,

Kym

Thank you for all the replies so far. This kind encouragement is just what I need to sustain me in the next go-around. Weight loss for health reasons is my primary goal at this time with the environment a close second. Animals are not for our food (or experimenting upon either).

But the health reasons are most important to me right now and I appreciate all the encouragement people can give me. Anyone who has lost a lot of weight by adopting a low-fat vegan diet... I would love to hear from you.

Anyone who is in my situation and with whom we could share encouragement during January 2012's Kickstart please post replies to this thread.

Thanks, Anne

Hi Anniegoat! I'm so glad your in and must compliment everyone who has responded to your post - such inspirations!

And the hallmark of a true winner is one who keep at it again and again.

It sounds like you have some definite goals, too, which is a good thing. Focusing on the health as you have the motivation and driver of weight loss is a huge connection that will help you a lot - cultivate your connection with what really drives your behavior change.

You asked about the weight loss experience of others - well, I'm down 50 lbs and have kept it off eating a whole foods, low fat plant-based diet as we have here at PCRM.
Here's my photo history for you:

Anything is possible. And it's all about the food, moving your body, and getting your head wrapped around it all.

Welcome Annie and can't wait to see you in the January forums!
