FOK Cookbook vs FOK Companion Guide

I notice there's kind of a civil war breaking out in the whole-food plant-based movement at the moment. On one side there's the fans of the FOK cookbook (Cookbook-ites), and on the other side there's the fans of the FOK companion guide (Guide-ites). I doubt that Brian Wendell anticipated such a bitter feud, but I can't help wishing that he'd just put everything into one book. Like Daphne Oz. Or at least made the second book so screwy that people would only remember the first one.
Anyway, I'm still not exactly sure which side I'm on yet. I love the completeness of the cookbook, but at the same time I get overwhelmed if there's too many recipes to choose from. Plus every time I try one of the desserts my odourless gas starts to become, shall we say, non-odourless. So I guess I'm leaning more towards the companion guide.
Does anyone else have any views on this ? I'm hoping we can have a thoughtful exchange without getting nasty with each other.
