McDougall Advanced Study Wkend Underway!
Posted Saturday, September 10, 2011 at 2:02 AM

Dr. McDougall got us off to a great start, then the amazing buffet dinner with conversation to match followed by Nathaniel Dominy, PhD who ran us through a detailed and fascinating presentation about human evolution and diet with a focus on genes, archaeological evidence, and so much content it probably should have lasted 3 hours rather than one - and I would have sat there for all of them!

It's so invigorating to connect with all these dietary luminaries. Tomorrow's agenda is full of amazing speakers! Here's the lineup:

I am so jealous! If I could have afforded it...it would have been a great birthday present!

I did sign up for online access to the videos. Absolutely worth it!

Looking forward to more reports!

Pippin, how is this working out for you? I wonder too if you were there 'live' last night or watching later?

Lani,
Don't forget to ask about the LDL.

..."...I hear that the chance of an MI is greater in persons with an increased small ldl level. I'm confused about the different in how large and small ldl particles are formed and how the small ldl can be decreased. Does exercise and a no added fat vegan diet lower the small ldl or just the large ldl or both?..."

Lani, I have found that the on-line videos work great. I am watching on my IPad and am happy with the quality. I have only watched two so far -- Dr. McD's opening remarks and the keynote speaker. I plan to watch all of the lectures over the course of a week or two. I think they are available for 180 days.

There is a lot of banter about the wonderful meals. I am sorry I am missing the great food!

Hi, Lani,

I haven't watched any of the videos yet! Part of my birthday gift to myself was to NOT turn on the computer at all.

I've bought the on-line access each time since February 2010...worth every penny! I watch and re-watch them until I no longer have access. The first time, you could actually watch the talks live as they happened. I was glued to the screen all weekend. After that time, they've only been available at least an hour or so after they've happened...which is fine. I do have some technical difficulties watching the videos. Ever since they changed to streaming video that you can access at any point in the presentation, at some point every video goes crazy, the streaming stops, and I have to do tricky moves to get it all going again. Hopefully that will have cleared up this time. Made it really tricky the last weekend!

Looking forward to working my way through the videos. I've learned so much; it's amazing! Dr. McD does amazing work on his own but the fact that he can bring together so many great minds is amazing and a real gift to us all.
