Soy Curls?
Posted Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at 12:46 AM

Anyone familiar with soy curls? I've seen some interesting recipes using them on Pinterest. Never heard of them before but it was mentioned that they can be found in the bulk section of Whole Foods. Sounds like they need to be marinated to rehydrate and use in recipes.

I haven`t tried them either but I agree - they do look interesting!

I went ahead and purchased a few packages from Butler Foods. The only ingredient is whole soybeans, which are extruded. So far, I've only made a chick'n salad with them and the Chick'n seasoning. It tasted remarkably like the real thing. The Chick'n seasoning has 320 mg of sodium in a teaspoon so I'll be going easy with that. It's not necessary, though. They can be marinated in vegetarian broth or any marinade of your choice. Will try them in a recipe this week. I went ahead and bought a few packages. If you're curious, Amazon sells them by the single package but they are pricier that way. One package is enough for a couple of meals.

Has anyone heard from Deborahjm since she tried those soy curls ? I'm probably worrying over nothing. It's just that they're a fairly new product with no proven track history of safety in the human diet.
