Juice fasting fail :(
Posted Sunday, September 11, 2011 at 10:38 PM

Tried to do a juice fast for 3/4th of the day but finally broke it with a healthy dinner of quinoa soup, sauted cabbage (in water with some spices) . Maybe fasting is not really for me or I am too weak Sad Any opinions?

I'm sure Susan will weigh in on this, but I feel that fasting is not healthy. Our bodies were created to function with real food, not just with liquid. Juice, though it has nutrients, has no fiber, and therefore is basically just pure sugar shot straight into the bloodstream... it's hard on the pancreas and can result in a blood sugar spike and then crash.

It appears, to uneducated-but-well-meaning-me Wink that you had an extremely healthy dinner. So I wouldn't call that a failure. I'd call that a success at eating a well-rounded, healthy meal! May all of our meals be so healthy! Very Happy

And, too, it's a "win" as well for you feeling what your body felt and needed and supplying that. That's a good thing to learn - we've mostly been trained out of recognizing what our body is asking for and giving it what it's supposed to want - for example, we're only 'supposed to' eat 3 'square meals' per day. But, that's not necessarily what our body wants. Many folks are better off with half a dozen smaller eating times. Babes know what they need and when they need it. It's only when we 'train' them up to what we think they need that they lose that innate connection. Left to choose for themselves, kids will grow to seek out sources of whatever they need at the time whether it's protein or carbs or citrus (in any kind of combination). (okay, that's a whole other topic so I'll leave it there)
