Blood Test for Protein

I would appreciate knowing if the Total Protein measurement that is part of a Comprehensive Metabolic Panel is any indication of adequacy of protein in ones diet or if it is unrelated to that subject.

It could be related to malnutrition. But a low Total Protein measurement could mean a lot of different issues, some of which are quite serious and should be addressed with your health care professional.

Thanks. My last reading on Total Protein was no issue (7.2 vs range of 6.2-8.30. I just wondered if it was of any value in assessing dietary protein.

I see. It's so rare for someone in a Western country to have a low total protein reading unless something else is going on such as drastic caloric restriction (anorexia) or another underlying medical condition (liver disease, kidney disease, wounds, as examples).

Glad you are well!!

I've had bariatric surgery and should be on a high protein diet. I'm not though and am happy with it.
