Biometrics results
Posted Saturday, June 26, 2010 at 7:03 PM
I doubt anyone is still around to read this, but I'll post it anyway. I just got my bloodwork back after 3 months of 100% vegan diet. Pretty impressive, I think. Total cholesterol: 91 (<200) HDL: 42 (>39) <-- gotta work on that one! Need more healthy fats. LDL: 44 (<100) Risk Ratio LDL/HDL: 1.05 (<3.22) Triglycerides: 24 (<150) Glucose: 76 (65-100) Calcium: 9.3 (8.5-10.5) Magnesium: 2.1 (1.3-2.3) Iron: 130 (35-145) Ferritin: 87 (10-220) My Vitamin D levels were the only thing that were low, and that's my own fault for not getting enough sunlight!

Also, I wouldn't worry too much about a low HDL with such a low LDL. As Dr. Ornish put it, you don't need that many garbage trucks (HDL) when you don't have that much garbage (LDL).

Wow, thanks, Susan!!! That's a great point from Dr. Ornish. I've never heard that before, but it makes sense. I really didn't know why I needed to have higher HDL, I just kept hearing it over and over "raise HDL for better health," and so on. But you've made me feel better. Thank you!

Way to go. Going to print and share with my DH. We went to a great vegan restaurant today and he said if I cooked like that at home, he would go vegan. These numbers may be more incentive! Great job!

Thanks, guys!!! I didn't know you were all still here. I haven't been posting anything cause I thought everyone was gone... but then, I just now figured out the "subscribe to all new posts" thing at the bottom of the thread.

Wonderful results! I hope mine will come out as good. I do labs in July and like you have 6 months vegan eating "under my belt" so expect to see pretty good numbers. Eating this way has sure helped my blood pressure. And so glad to know that many are monitoring the site. What's everyone been up to?

Well, some of you may know we are starting our 4th Kickstart on Sept 6, 2010. So I am gearing up for that. We already have 8,000 people signed up! I hope some of you sign up (again) and inspire people the way you have inspired so many already, including myself. Also, Dr. Barnard has been going around the country to PBS stations and presenting information about vegan diets. Check your local listings to see if you can catch him. Without even trying, I've seen him on my PBS station here in DC and once by chance on the PBS station in New York City.

I'm still here too and still following a vegan diet and enjoying it more and more. Most of the time the "other" stuff doesn't even appeal to me any more. Those lab results are really impressive!

Hello all! And, Molly, WOW! I am so impressed. Those numbers look great! You should throw a "I'm healthy" party and invite us all over. On this end, I am ticking right along. I had some low points, but I just pick myself off and try again. Overall, I am eating a little fish, Salmon (from Alaska) about twice a week. I really missed fish. Otherwise the same. About once a week, I check my blood sugar, weight and blood pressure. All normal. I am going in for lab work on July 17th and can't wait to see my result. Take care all and glad you are all still here! EJ Mississippi
