Passed my first big test!
Posted Sunday, January 31, 2010 at 11:09 PM

Well, I had my first big test. Went away for the weekend with my Sis, my niece and granddaughter. Eating all meals out or at a relatives house. (all non-vegans)

Saturday night I happened to be at the dinner table listening in on a conversation of an extended family member. He was putting down his son's girlfriend for professing to be a "vegetarian" in a family "meat eaters", as he put it. I just listened and kept my mouth shut. The whole time he was talking, I was busy eating the masa off the homemade tamale on my plate. I then wrapped the "meat" up in the empty corn husk without being noticed and politely tossed it in the garbage can. (whoops!) Wink

If I had to give myself a grade for the weekend, it would be a "B+". Had a few "small" treats, didn't go overboard, didn't beat myself up or in any way feel defeated. Came away feeling proud of the way I handled it all and for the many "good choices" I made!!!

When I went to say good-bye to my Sis this evening, she said was encouraged after watching how I ate over the weekend. Now, she said she will think about doing a program herself. Very Happy

Well done, you! Not only did you stick to your program you inspired someone else to perhaps give it a try!

I have found that when I go out, I order a salad. I bring a small container of beans, brown rice and dressing I have made (or I will use some small amount of Gaelo dressing). When the salad is delivered, I add my container of food to it. I was so tired of being disappointed by the large, pricey salad that was made when I asked for some accommodations with few fresh additions.

What a great idea. I always carry my own salad dressing, but I never thought of bringing beans, etc. Thanks SO MUCH. I will sure do that from now on. I don't remember where I posted this, but I like the Greek salad peppers. When I have eaten all the peppers I drain and rinse a can of garbanzo beans and put them in the pepper juice. I let them sit for a week, maybe 2, then use them on salads. They are so good, and they would be perfect to carry as you suggested.

I'm going to have to start carrying a bigger purse!
Amazing what we learn from each other.
