Has your tastebuds changed?
Posted Saturday, February 20, 2010 at 12:20 PM
I went to a mexican food restaurant last night and ordered Vegetarian combo. It didn't have any cheese listed, but it had melted cheese all over it when they served it to me. I tried scraping it off, but it was all over. So I ate some of it. It really didn't taste the same as I remembered before I went Vegan. It tasted fatty and it really ruined my supper. I use to really love cheese, but now it taste bad. Has anyone else had that experience?

I've never been a big dairy foods person but I have had other people tell me that their taste for cheese has totally changed. In "The China Study" I found that most people who think they LOVE cheese are really just addicted to it. That would explain why it tastes differently once you get rid of the addiction. I have found that certain things no longer sit well on my stomach, feel heavy, make me feel blah. I've also found that I don't care for too much salt or too much fat. If something has a lot of fat it feels nasty in my mouth, salt just doesn't taste good. In addition to being vegan I try to stay away from processed foods. I eat mostly fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, beans. When I do eat processed foods is when I get the feeling of too much fat, too much salt.

Things do start tasting too sweet, fatty, and salty to me after I've eaten whole foods for a while, yes.

Mine have definitely changed too. I am also noticing my body's reaction when I have something processed, when it never felt odd before how it I can feel the affect of the food now. All good though!

I truly believe our taste buds change their preferences in the 21 days mentioned in the PCRM info. I have lost my desire for both meat & dairy & genuinely like non-dairy milks, except rice milk which is just OK. Stick with it because vegan is backed by the science. Personally, after 6 wks. I LOVE the vegan recipes. Hang in there. crzrman39

My tastebuds have definitely changed. It is getting more difficult to eat out because most things taste too salty or too greasy. Formerly, I did not enjoy being in the kitchen, but now I am starting to like to cook my own meal. I made my first hummus yesterday and loved the fact that I controlled how much salt and lemon juice went into the dish. I loved the taste of the finished product. I am really enjoying cooking with a wide variety of spices.

Mine has, I tried eating one of my favorite burgers from a fast food restaurant and it made me feel ill all day, it actually did not taste good, I could not even finish it. And that was on day 6.
