GERD restrictions

Because I suffer from GERD - reflux, I cannot have tomato sauce or citrus fruit. What can I substitute for these items in your recipes?

I have a similar condition. Several offered tips earlier in this thread. One helpful idea was to use lentils. There is no comparable subs but some new ways of thinking. I follow my restrictions closely and it is life altering but worth the change.

Citrus is easy - just don't eat it. It's generally not essential (although I can't imagine guacamole without a little spritz of lime juice). Can you use apple cider vinegar or is that also too acidic? That might add just a touch of the acidity that citrus usually gives.

As far as tomato, red lentils add the color plus they tend to break down and get creamy-ish when they cook, so they could work as a chili base (for example).
