Got my cholesterol results today.....
Posted Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at 7:00 PM

Hi Gang

Got my cholesterol results today after 4 weeks on Kickstart Program

Cholesterol was "197"

It was 233 last time.

Triglycerides went down 125 pts

HDL (good stuff) was increased by 15 pts

LDL (bad stuff) was decreased by 40 pts.

LDL/HDL Ratio was 1.9 (Normal Range 0.5 - 3.0)

My calcium level and protien levels were both normal. I only take a mulit-vitamin each day. No extra calcium. (My fingernails are growing nicely too!)

Needless to say......I'm a "Happy Camper" today!!!! Very Happy

Good for you! After that report is there anything that could make you go back to a typical SAD diet? I don't think so.

My cholesterol was 150 today, yay! Everything else was basically normal. Makes me happy to see the good numbers, even though they aren't the whole story.

Good job on the great results!

Due to a previously scheduled physical appt. with my doc, I had to go for my blood tests after only one week on the 21-Day Kickstart. My A1C was lower than three months earlier and I truly believe the vegan plan helped with that - even though I had only been on it 7 days. My April tests will hopefully show even better results.

Many of my numbers were improved and my weight was down by 9 lbs.(since my last visit - not starting Kickstart) but my LDL number had not budged at all. My doctor feels this is a genetic issue and that my liver just produces too much cholesterol. (our measurements are different here so I'm not sure how 150 LDL compares to my results of 3.67 LDL) So, now I'm on Crestor which bothers me no end, but I'm not sure what else to do.

Will following a vegan diet improve my LDL? Or is it true that my liver is just always going to produce too much cholesterol?

My LDL improved and I also have "fatty liver disease". My Gastro doctor told me last week that the ultrasound I had in Dec. 09 showed changes with my fatty liver. He was pleased with what I was doing and will check it again in 6 months. So, even with all that, the LDL was better after 4 plus weeks?

Hi Craftycat -

I've also been told I have a fatty liver. Crying or Very sad I have no gallbladder anymore either (had one huge stone almost the size of the organ itself).

I guess my concern is that because I'm now taking a statin, will any good results from the vegan plan be masked by the drug...i.e. is it the diet or the statin that will cause the cholesterol numbers to improve? (btw, my HDL was good.. but the overall number too high)

My doctor rattled my cage a little because of the high LDL numbers, together with a too-high (but improving!) triglyceride number, and my Type 2 diabetes (AIC = 6.0). I left his office feeling like a heart attack/stroke was just waiting to happen so I raced to get the prescription filled. One number that is consistently within the healthy range is my blood pressure - in the doc's office it was 108/60..no problems on that one score!

Getting old sucks. Very Happy

Getting old is better than the alternative. I'll take all the old you don't want. I plan to get very old.

First of all sorry about all the posts. I was having trouble with my computer last night and didn't realize it was sending all those messages??? It wasn't showing that they were sent.

Stay with the program. What will probably happen is your other numbers will get better. The cholesterol will continue to drop and they may taper off the statin drug. I've heard that happening before.......that it dropped so low that they were able to get off the medication totally. Don't just stop the meds....listen to your doctor..get your cholesterol checked regularly.

And yes I agree........."Getting Old Sucks!" Confused

For more information on statins and cholesterol, Dr. John McDougall has lots of good information and testimonies on his website. He also has a free newsletter, lots of good books and DVD's.

Thank you 21 day Kickstart. I got my bloodwork results today and they are the best of my life and I've tried to lower my cholesterol for almost 40 years.

My cholesterol was 510 when I was in early 20s. Well, today at 62 my results are:

Total 210 down 60 from last test in Dec 09
Triglycerides 70 actually up 26
HDL 74 exactly the same
LDL 122 DOWN 65

I removed all traces of dairy 3 mos ago. And finally on March 1, 2010, removed meat and fish, olive oil and a lot less peanut butter. Someday soon I would like to get off Zocor, for now at least lower the dosage to 10mg instead of 20. Very Happy
