Hello! Welcome to the Kickstart forum. Even though the Kickstart does not officially start until September 6, feel free to post any pre-thoughts. It's more fun to gear up together!

We are doing the menus in 7-day chunks (like we did in March). A couple of days before day one, day eight, and day 15 we release the following week's menu. This way there is time to shop for any of the recipes that look interesting.

Got a question....I got food poisoning a few weeks back and still don't have the good bugs in my stomach. I've been taking a probiotic and eating yogurt. It is helping. Is there something else that would do better than yogurt?

The yogurt itself doesn't innately have the good bacteria, rather it is supplemented with probiotics. You could simply bypass the yogurt and just take the supplement directly. It's a much healthier way to replenish!

This is a bit weird for me. I am excited about this program. I have been mostly vegan for a while now. I fould Dr.B's book in a second hand book store an thought it was what I needed, but I didn't understand a lot about how to do the fixing. I have experimented with frozen and fresh foods. I've been reading vegan cookbooks, but I am hesitant about fixing some things.

Oh you don't have to be a chef or even a good cook to follow a healthful, vegan eating plan. Trust me on this one - I don't fall into either category myself! What I can do is boil water. Which means I can eat the healthiest foods on the planet and at very little expense.

My favorite meal, and you will see it come up often, is Beans/Greens/Grains. I often boil a cup of no-soak legumes such as red lentils with a cup of grains such as brown basmati rice until they are both done (30 minutes). For the last 2 minutes I throw in a green du jour (Kale? Broccoli? Collards?) plus some spices (Curry? Cajun? Mexican?). So good for you. So easy. One pot to clean. Keeps well in the fridge. Voila.

Culinary expertise not required.

A "thread" simply means a topic of conversation. So this thread is called "Getting Ready." Anyone could start a new thread at anytime. By the end of the Kickstart there will be many, many threads.

PM? I'm not sure. Next to the time above each post it just means Post Meridian.

So how long will it keep in the frig? I like the way this sounds but if I'm the only one eating it, it might be in the frig awhile. Don't want to get sick again from eating something that is too old. Smile

I can eat from such a brew for about a week. But if you are concerned, make smaller batches more often. It's easy enough to do often.

"PM" might mean "Private Message." This forum might be equipped with the ability to speak with other members privately, rather than on this more public forum. I'll have to look and see!

Following with Susan's lead, last night I put 1/2 cup of a five blend brown rice, 1/2 cup red lentils, one teaspoon of vegetable stock and 1 1/2 cups water in the B&D steamer and turned it on to 55 minutes. About 15 minutes before it was to stop, I grabbed two fists full of red chard and threw it into the steamer. It tasted great (I was hungry), but the lentils were so "done" that they were unrecognizable. I think next time I'll wait to put the lentils into the mix. I divided the stew into three storage bowls. I had one for lunch today and I don't have to cook tonight. Perhaps next I'll try to do the same thing with red quinoa, a white beans (presoaked), vegetable stock, and some peppers. If I can get gutsie enough to try making a veggie burger from scratch, I'll feel that I'm getting somewhere.

I received an e-mail that I should go to the home page to see Dr B's video. All I saw was the one that I think has been there. Am I doing something less than correct?...Elizabeth
