Chia oil
Posted Friday, April 5, 2013 at 1:52 PM

I recently decided I would add chia to my diet to get a boost of Omega 3's. I was using the powder form and sprinkling it on foods. Now I was told that it is best to take it in the oil form because that is the best way for it to efficiently convert to the omega 3's that we need. Not sure if any of this information is correct and by taking it in the oil form am I adding oil/fat to the low-fat plant based way of eating ??????? Help !!! Thanks!

No - these are pretty hard to overeat.

Susan, Do you recommend the oil or the seeds ? Thanks!

Well, the whole food is always best for a variety of reasons (comes with other nutrients not to mention fiber). However, if one were taking a very small and controlled amount of this oil for supplemental purposes, then I suspect that would be all right too.

As a reminder: With a low-fat, vegan diet the added expense of hemp oil may not be needed.

I've been putting ground flaxseed in my oatmeal for the Omega 3s.
