thyroid and a plant based diet

Does anyone know how a plant based diet affects a low thyroid condition that requires medication?

Here is a page of information that may help answer some questions: http://www.nutritionmd.org/health_care_providers/endocrinology/hypothyroidism_nutrition.html. I'm happy to address any follow up questions to this information page.

This is a less complicated version of the above: http://www.nutritionmd.org/consumers/diabetes_thyroid/hypothyroidism_nutrition.html.

Can a Plant Based Diet minimize ones dependency on thyroxin -
I've been taking Synthroid for over 20 years. A few years ago, when I went to a Whole Foods Diet (not Vegan, or Vegetarian), we were able to slighly decrease dosage.
Mine is not geneticly based, and I'm sure is based on an iodine deficiency - when younger I decided to join my father, way back when, when he went on Pritikin to lower his Blood Pressure.
Would like to know if it is possible that through a whole foods plant based diet, if the dependency on medication can be further reduced.
