Horse consumption for humans in US

http://technorati.com/lifestyle/article/obama-legalizes-horse-slaughter-for-human/ My first reaction was to be horrified. But then I realized that to the majority of meat eaters, it is meat. A dead animal is just that, a dead animal. It is our brain that make the difference. Years ago I was at a family gathering and my sister-in-law (at that time) commented casually on the goats outside (that belonged to another SIL) and how wonderful they taste and began to describe how to prepare them. It was politely explained to her that those goats were "pets" and the topic was a bit upsetting to the owner. She was sitting next to me (and my dogs) on the couch and she calmly looked down at my smallest dog and began discussing how tasty dogs were as well and how to prepare them! I moved my dog to the other side of me and said out loud, Tinker we better move you, Aunty Rose is starting to drool on you! My ex (surprised that he is an ex? NOT) chastised me later that I had hurt the SIL's feelings ~ so the moral? She is from another country and does not yet understand that we Americans eat with a forked tongue. It is okay to revere this animal (dogs, cats, etc) but these over here we can treat quite inhumanely and think nothing of eating them. Somehow I don't think it translates well! Soooo... I am now offering 3 cheers for all of us vegheads! Hip hip HOORAY!
Always offer kindness and a soft word to the beings around you; You do not know their journey. Your words can be the hug they need or the shove that breaks them.
