Myths

I had signed up for Vegetarian times 28 day boot camp awhile back. One of the things they send is an e mail once a week talking about myths. Debunking these myths has been good for me even though I know they are wrong. But, I am stuck in that myth about eating meat to get all the nutrients a body needs.
Now, I know that this false. I have know this for a long time. A body does not need meat and can get allllll it needs from a plant based meal plan.
So...my question is, Why do I still get hung up on this? When I plan what I'm going to eat I think, "Protein, Starch, veggies." And the first protein I think of is meat.I was raised this way but had left that far behind years ago. Went Vegan and was doing well. For some reason I have a mental block. Why can't I shake this? I sometimes feel I have been reprogrammed to eat meat. I don't like this. I need to reprogram myself back to vegan!
Thanks for letting me spout.

Reprogramming is tough, especially when you are up against billion-dollar marketing campaigns and corporate/government interests in general. But think about the science that supports a plant-based diet, and think about how you feel now.

I like to remember some of the strongest animals on this planet such as the elephants (those tusks!!), horses, and even the cows - no meat in their natural diets. We should be so powerful!

Something that helped me in meal planning was not to think "what's vegan?" but to look at "what's plant based?" It kind of helped get past the protein=meat/dairy thing to just think "what plant protein do we want/have?" And, too, keeping the pantry stocked chock full of plant based proteins - two colors of quinoa, a couple colors of lentils, a rainbow of beans, etc. With those in the larder, it's relatively simple to actually SEE the proteins -especially if the alternative is usually in the freezer (out of sight...)
