Where do you get your protein? HA!
Posted Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at 7:53 PM

So I have been eating a whole food plant based diet going on 5 years now (I am so excited for this KICKSTART), and if you are anything like me- this "protein" question really gets me mad...and I guess sometimes I just have to laugh! There is so many things wrong with our "must have enough protein" culture.
I have a few answers that I always say to this question, but I wouldn't mind having a few more. Any suggestions?

That question annoys the heck out of me too. I've been a vegetarian for 21 years and EVERYone asks me that! That's a long time to continue to answer an annoying question. I look forward to hearing other's responses as I haven't come up with a good one in all this time!

First ask "how much protein do I need?" see if the asker knows that information...then ask "how much (in grams) protein do YOU get, and how much do YOU need...based on your age, weight etc", again see if the asker knows the answer to that.... And then...if the asker still wants to continue a conversation about technical information that they (probably or they wouldnt be asking) know so little about, you can explain about the protein myth, and the fact that there is protein in almost everything we eat, and most carnivores eventually suffer the effects of protein excess by way of high cholesterol, high BP, heart disease etc, as they age...that animal protein builds up in the arteries over the years and POOF all the sudden a "healthy adult" has a risk factor, high cholesterol, and the drug companies, who are "in bed" with the meat industry and commercial farmers, get their "pay off"...another person on meds...THEIR meds...I never believed in conspiracies...now I'm beginning to...sad.
