Thanks for the reply. Maybe I am getting more then I think. I guess I should not worry about it. Do you recommend any of the protein poweders. I don't know much abuot hemp. I did a little research and found a soy-free naturade brand that was mostly made up of peas, beans, etc...

I really do not recommend protein powders for healthy people. Extra protein is not like extra vitamin C. It takes a lot for your body to deal with and excrete extra protein. It takes a toll on your kidneys and your bones.

OK.I will stick with the beans, vegies, fruits and grains ! Thanks. So, no problem being a vegan without soy ?
One more question, living without yogurt do we need to worry about the pro-biotic benefits of yogurt ?
Thanks for your help. I really appreciate your expertise!

No worries on skipping the soy - just another bean! The probiotics in yogurt are added at the factory, not naturally occuring. If you feel you need probiotics, just take the supplement and skip the dairy vehicle. But if you eat lots of fiber, your gut should be full of all the healthy bacteria it needs naturally.

Thanks so much for answering my question about B12. I read the info which said we need 2.4 mcg per day. My Women's vitamin has 6 mcg. So I guess I'm OK with the B. Thanks for the info.

I was so glad to see the link to this website in our newspaper. I read the book Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease by Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn on Feb 12th and began to follow the diet that day. Twenty five days later, I have lost 14 lbs and eat all I want of the right foods. There are great recipes in the book, including the Lentil Loaf with Barbeque sauce. One good protein source I found, in addition to the tried and true is Seapoint Farms Dry Roasted Edamame. 1/4 cup = 14g of protein. It is a little high in fat (4g) but a good crunchy snack once in a while. I am trying to keep my fat intake between 9-12% of my calories. Dr. E. says to avoid all oils. I have used a little bit of Galeos low fat Miso Dijonnaise, Miso Ginger & Wasabi. It has a little bit of sesame oil or olive oil though I try to not have any oil. Only 14-19 calories per Tablespoon. Nice for a change from the dressings I make with cukes, chickpeas and garlic in the food processor. I look forward to reading the threads and finding more good recipes.

Happy to see so many people who are doing the kickstart for the first time. I have been a strict vegetarian for 20 years and have been vegan for about 6 months now. Hard where I live in rancher country where vegans are freaks, one health food store that doesn't carry everything in recipes, and most restaurants idea of catering to certain diets are a salad. We cook at home alot more now, which is healthier anyway. I take B12 most days, juice greens alot and feel really good about not using animal products. Is there an online place to watch Food, Inc? or do you have to buy a copy? For new vegans who are worried about staying on track, learning more about factory farming may be just what you need to stay focused.

Hi Susan, I signed up for the 21-day vegan kickstart but have yet to receive any emails...thus I signed up for the forum. Do you know how I can start getting emails about the 21-day vegan kickstart?

The 21 day kickstart was March 1-21. I believe the next one will not be until September. However the forums are still up for support and information. Hope this helps.
