Question about Soup....
Posted Sunday, September 12, 2010 at 7:07 PM
I was invited and had soup for lunch. It had spinage, beets, rice and other vegetables. It had turkey meat balls. I did not eat the turkey. Is that ok? If I didn't eat the turkey but the veg. and rice?? Thanks

Sometimes picking out the "culprits" is the best we can do. Vegetables and rice are certainly part of the plan though!

My main purpose of eating this way is to lose weight. What I did with the soup, is that ok? I mean if I eat things that have meat in them but not the meat will I still lose weight?

I would avoid as many unknown recipes as possible. For example, if the broth was chicken based and had added oils and and fats, then it could be a problem for weight loss. But sometimes we find ourselves in situations where we do the best we can. If it looked and tasted truly tainted, and you felt comfortable being your own advocate, you could say, "I'm sorry. I'm on a health program that doesn't allow certain ingredients. I'm doing it to prevent heart disease and diabetes. And I'm doing it 100 percent."

I know it didn't have chicken stock or beef stock. But, it did have turkey meat balls.

We all have to decide where to draw the line. If health is your only concern, then it sounds like you tried hard, and that counts for something. For me, the choice to be vegetarian is also a moral choice, so that eating anything cooked with animal flesh is not acceptable. Even if the turkey was not eaten, the juices would have permeated the soup. It would not be possible to eat it without ingesting the body fluids of the turkey.

Don't feel bad! That's not going to help! Just take the knowledge and move on. We're all always learning.

ok, sounds good. thanks for all your help. I just thought that since I'm doing this for weightloss purposes, if I don't eat the meat, I'll be on my way to getting thin.

Devasha, I admire your willingness to try something new for weight loss. I am concerned though that if you do indeed lose your weight on this program, that once the weight is off you will return to you old eating habits as you have stated you are only doing this for weight loss and consequently regain the weight. I would hate to see you gain the weight back after your hard work. You might want to consider making this a life-long change for your health and continued weight management. Best of luck!

I think once I see how good I look and feel, I will continue this way of eating. It has only been 2 days and I feel like a lot of my cravings are going away Love that!

Susan, So far my favorite meal is lentils, brown rice mixture, veggie broth, garlic, onions, peppers, and any other veg in the refrigerator. Throw it in the steamer and wait for the "ding"...Elizabeth

sounds very yummy. I will have to try that. Do you put it in a rice pressure cooker?

I have a Black and Decker steamer. They make two sizes. It's just me and I have the small. It has a timer, so I just throw the parts together and spin the timer. Occasionally, I share it with my 91 year mother...She likes it....Elizabeth
