This is my "third time's a charm" with the kickstart. I am an on and off and on again vegetarian/vegan since 2000. The past few years I have had some struggles that have wreaked havoc with my health. I am joining this kickstart and incorporating Dr. McDougall's recipes since I am already very comfortable with those. My major challenges are I work full time days and go to school at night, plus need to provide meals for my family who is not veg in anyway. So pre-planning and preparing meals ahead of time is my weapon of choice! This session also ends the day before my birthday, so what a wonderful birthday gift of health I can give myself! JavaBoley

Third Jumpstart of me! Since the last two weren't fully successful, I began differently this time. A Month Ago: I went to a Yoga class and the reflection in the mirror and the struggle I had getting into some positions due to extra weight on my belly, made me take a hard turn. I decided to change immediately. Next was a quick 2 day cleanse and then began eating Vegan to set myself up for success instead of another miss-start. To my surprise I lost 10 pounds and lots of inches. I still have a roll around, but over all I am much slimmer and have so much more energy. Now only have 15 to lose I am so pleased that we are welcomed back into the program and valued as members. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You~~~

Hello I am also new here. Very excite to be starting this program. I am a stay at home mom and still haven't lost the "baby weight" aka FAT. He turns 2 in a week and a half. (sad I know) I am hoping a plant based diet with exercise will be what gets me 50 pounds lighter. Can't wait to start this journey with you all

I'm excited about a new plan, a new start. I've done a similar program before (E2L) and I've been veg for a while. I've been out of control lately and the timing is right for this kickstart. I do have a question, though. The 21-day kickstart is only if you follow the given menu? I am NOT one who does well with plans/schedules/charts, etc. To box me in and say I *have* to eat a certain meal at a certain time is setting me up to fail before I even begin. I understand the WOE is a plant-based diet, low fat, etc.; but the actual 21-day thing is based on the daily menu posted here. Is that correct? Just trying to be clear here.

Hi!! I am Kelly and this is my first kickstart. I am a Stay at home mom to 2 great kids. One son who is 2.5 and a daughter who is 10 months. RIght after I had my first we changed our eating habits. I kept thinking "do I want my son to eat this??" and most of the time my answer was No. So, my husband and I decided to stop eating processed food for the most part and increased our veggies. Now that my daughter is here i think it is time for me to take it up a notch and really add more beans and different veggies to our diet. I would also like to lose the last 5 pounds of baby weight.

I am so pumped to do this.I have been eating a plant based diet since Jan 14,at that point I was having very limited eggs and dairy.Feb 14 I went into this lifestyle fully.I can say 95% is plant based.I am finding that dairy is in alot of food.I am getting everything in order to begin baking most of my foods. It will be easier to control that way.I am hoping this will take me to the next level.I feel amazing!! I think my friends and family are quite proud and I have been loving this life change!!!

Hello fellow vegans! I just finished the 21 day kickstart program that I did by myself. I'm looking forward to doing it again with everyone here! The past three weeks have been awesome! I feel great and it was like this program was made for me. This is something I have wanted to do for so long but never thought I could do it. It has been so easy so far for me and I dont miss my cheese that I thought was my friend. I started at 232 lbs. and so far I have lost 6 pounds(226 lbs)! I am currently doing a weight lifting program as well so I really feel my body changing and my recovery is much faster. When I eat now I feel alive rather than wanting to take a nap on my couch! I can't wait to get off my blood pressure meds as well. I'm looking forward to this and getting to know everyone!

No, you don't have to follow the plan exactly. It's designed to introduce folks to eating a plant based low fat lifestyle. If you look over the menu plan and decide that you'd rather have cold cereal and plant milk today and oatmeal tomorrow, fine. Most people don't know how to eat in a filling, healthy, vegan manner. The menu plan is designed to introduct that - introducing lots of new to many people grains, vegetables, etc. A lot of people may have heard of kale or quinoa, but to actually prepare it for a meal, no clue. --Deb R

Hello, I am so excited to for vegan kickstart! I have been vegetarian for 5 years. I am ready to make the change to a healthy vegan! I made the red bean and collards recipe..it was very tasty. The second night I served it with quinoa instead of rice. . I plan to have at least one smoothie a day. It is an excellent way to eat organic fruit when not in season! (frozen fruit)

Hi Gang, Glad to be back on the 21 Day Kickstart forums. Always a great support & each time I pick up new ideas, information & recipes. I agree with "kiwi" that I've been about 95% Vegan since the January kickstart, with a few slips. The best news is that I've been off of my Lupus medication since December & haven't had any episodes thus far. But have had a flu/cold/cough since a couple days after Christmas. Have a cough that has left me with some "asthma", which I've never had before. Just when I think I've kicked the cough, it relapses. Have been working with a Preventive Medicine Doctor the past month or so, to get my immune system built back up with a few natural supplements. Working on a few "food allergies" too. Looking forward to new discoveries and helping the "newbies" out as well. Blessings

Hi Everyone, I'm excited to join the 21day Kickstart and I'm looking forward to getting to know some of you. I've been eating vegan on and off for about 3 years but this time I'm in all the way. My brother became vegan 3 years ago after having chest pains and surgery to place a stint. A friend gave him The China Study to read. Glenn jumped on the vegan diet and has never looked back. Glenn has a saying, I don't know where he coined it from, but it's "If it has a face or a mother I don't eat it." I do have a lot of weight to lose but more than weight loss, I want to be and feel healthy. My husband and I couldn't wait until Monday to get started so we began 3 weeks ago.

To the person who is new and wondered how to get variety in their meals...there are TONS of great sites to give you inspiration and recipes. One of my favorite is Fat Free Vegan. You can google it and it will show up as the first choice. VegSource is also a WONDERFUL source of information and links to other great sites. I could spend hours doing the research. My husband - who is NOT vegan - loves a lot of what I cook and more often than not will choose more veggies over more meat!! To the person who mentioned Dr. McDougall....I have ALL his books and they are filled with tons of good recipes. I am doing this kickstart because I fell off the wagon a few years ago and now have a heart condition. So...it is non-negotiable for me now!! One bonus - I am NEVER hungry!!

Hi there! New to this forum and relativley new to a Vegan WOE. I started mainly to lose weight and to improve my chances with MS. I'm on day two of the "Kickstart" plan and I'm loving the variety of recipes and meal ideas. This is great because as a Newbee to Vegan.. coming up with meal plans has been the hardest challenge. I live with 3 Non-Vegan Young adults and one Non-Veg Husband, all of which think these recipes make Great "Side Dishes" to whatever they're eating that day Maybe we'll win them over yet.

I'm super excited to go through this 21-day Kickstart. I eat vegan most days, but I've never really been committed to living a totally vegan life before. It's difficult for me because my husband is a former chef who loves to cook - and it's hard for me to turn down a great meal that he's made and make a vegan or vegetarian meal for myself when something perfectly delicious is just sitting there. Of course everything he makes is just dripping with butter, olive oil, cheese, bacon...it's insane. I told him that I was going to do the 21-day program no ifs ands or buts and he was welcome to join me, but I was not going to eat a single thing he made that was off plan. So now it's out in the open and I've made it through day 2! Happy to be here...

Howdy all. I'm writing from Southern California, specifically, South Bay of Los Angeles. I wanted to do the kickstart in January, but life got in the way. Now, there's no excuse. I'm in it. I have two goals by doing this: Start dropping the pounds (at least 10 during the kickstart) and manage my PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) symptoms. So far, so good. I've lost a pound (yay!). Going vegan is waaaaay out of the realm of reality for me. I already miss my fish, chicken and eggs (oh, eggs!), but I'm committed. I think crafting some of my own recipes will be fun too. I developed a yummy chocolate cake tonight (all vegan baby!). Well, that's all for now. Oh, forgot to mention. I'm chronicling my journey on my blog: http://pcosrevolution.wordpress.com - holds me accountable. Ciao for now. With love and blessings, Corrie Ann
The journey begins with a single step. pcosrevolution.wordpress.com

I am so happy to be here. I am doing very well. I am a little farther along (third week). I've lost 6 pounds. My goal is more for health than weight loss, but I really need to lose weight, too.

Will your daughter not eat vegan meals because she's vegetarian? How about using the leftovers for lunches when possible rather than what is exactly on the menu (although sometimes the menu does refer back to prior days' dinners for lunches)? --Deb R

Hi, I'm new on here! I started the Kickstart a few days late, so I've just finished a week.... with a few lapses. Vegetarian is fairly easy for me except for giving up fish. Vegan, not so much... but things are improving as time goes by and I get a little more organized. And my omnivorous DH is supportive and eats the dinners I prepare. My biggest problem is that I decided to weigh myself today and I've GAINED almost 2 pounds! I'm not eating double servings or extra foods.... I can't figure out what's happening, but I guess I'd better get moving since I don't want to end up 10 pounds heavier. Any ideas on why this is happening?
