Excited
Posted Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at 5:30 PM
Hello...I'm new to the 21-day Vegan Kickstart, but I've been mostly vegan for the past 6 months or so. My difficulty has been in giving up the last bit of cheese and occasional sweets. My hope is that the momentum and energy of the of the Kickstart will move me into the full-vegan realm. I'm excited to begin!

My third kickstart. I'm not giving up my sweets but I have given up processed sugar. My afternoon snack is what helps stay the course. Down 10 lbs since last kickstart.

Hello, all! I'm excited, too! I was vegan years ago, after my first child was born and until I became pregnant with my second. After a really rough cold and flu season this winter, I decided to go back to veganism -- at the very least temporarily during the kickstart to detoxify and recover -- possibly permanently. I already started even though I know the kickoff is a few days away. Why wait? I pulled all my old vegan cookbooks off the shelf (my favorite is The Voluptuous Vegan) and I've kicked both coffee and alcohol. I'm feeling really good and I'm using the kickstart to take it a step further by striving to go 80% raw during the 21 days. My oldest, who is vegetarian, is very excited for me, so that is helping me stay motivated! Good luck to everyone, I look forward to checking in!

I was half way through the kickstart before I stopped wanting cheese. Not having it in the house helped me initially. Now I can be around it without any desire to eat it. Its not the look of cheese but the smell that gets me. It smells like a glob of fat. Sweets - now thats one of my downfalls. Specifically a vegan chocolate I found that is devine. I will be joining you in trying to kick it as this time around I am going for low fat and hopefully weight loss.

For those of you who still have a cheese addiction, and it is an addiction, I suggest you read the book "The China Study." He explains how it IS addictive and why it's not good for your health. Very informative book.

One of my goals is to lose weight ... I gained during the holidays and have not been successful in taking it off. I did very well previously following the first phase (nine days) of The Fat Smash Diet. It's vegetarian and restricts you to brown rice, sweet potatoes and oatmeal as your starches, but it does allow yogurt and egg whites, so I'm going to adapt it to veganism and see how that goes. I finished the last of my frozen waffles this morning, so now that temptation is gone. I love sweet potatoes and have loads of go-to brown rice and bean recipes, so I'm raring to go.
