not getting sick
Posted Monday, September 13, 2010 at 7:25 AM

Hi Everyone,
I have been a vegan since the March kickstart and realized that i have not gotten sick once since becoming Vegan. Has this happened to anyone else? and my cholesterol went from a horrible 283 to 135!

I've been eating a vegan diet since Nov 1995, so almost 15 years! Yikes, I'm older than I thought. But anyway, it's true. And I could tell fairly quickly I was not getting the "common cold" anymore. I've lived in some crowded, cold places like NYC and rainy, damp places like Seattle. I know I'm not invincible, but sometimes it feels that way!

I have been vegetarian for just about a year now, but eating very few eggs and almost no dairy. Since October last year, I have not had a cold or the flu. Usually I suffer from bronchitis and even pnemonia on a regular basis. I also have noticed that my seasonal fall allergies are not at all bad this year. Usually the ragweed kicks my butt! So, yes, I really think my new lifestyle has kicked my immunities up a notch.

I went vegetarian in 1990 and prior to that had eliminated pork. Then beef. Then in 1990 jumped the rest of the way with no meats at all. I have not had a cold or flu for over 20 years.

I have not been sick since I did the first kickstart in January. Over the summer I slipped a bit w/the dairy, but it feels good to be back on track. Have lost 30 pounds total! I did have some weird allergy something going on a few weeks ago--would come on very suddenly on the way home and become super congested w/itchy burning swollen eyes. Happened a couple of times at night as well. Weird and very uncomfortable.

That is a stunning, lifesaving drop in cholesterol! Well done. I have been vegan for almost 3 years and also don't get sick

If you are not vegan, go vegan - it's easy! It's better for you, better for the planet and most importantly it's the morally right thing to do for animals.

I must say, since going vegan I've only had to call in sick once. And even then I wasn't sick, it's just that a blunder with my hair clippers had left me with only 1.75 eyebrows and I looked ridiculous.

Actually that's probably what I miss most about meat and dairy: the sick days.

Theodore,

Okay, that made me laugh! I remember a while back a man I used to work with used to LOVE to bet on the football games. If no one would take him up on it, it would get crazy, so one year he bet his eyebrows on a game. I must say he looked quite odd without eyebrows, they did take a while to grow back! hahaha

Nice one Oceandog

Gambling one's eyebrows away ! I love it. And they always grow back with a vengeance too. I'm thinking of signing mine up for a "21-Day Whoa".

On a serious note, I remember 2 specific conditions that improved dramatically when I became vegan: IBS and Asthma.

So your eyebrows scare me and we haven't met! Laughing

Getting rid of IBS and Asthma, now THERE is an incentive!! Good on you!
