Banana Substitute?
Posted Saturday, January 5, 2013 at 9:22 AM

I'd love to try the Oatmeal Banana Bites (from Day 1), but is there an alternative to using bananas? Sounds like a silly question, considering the name of the recipe, but I like all the other ingredients, and bananas are the one food the good lord put on this earth that I cannot stand! Maybe use a little more applesauce?

Pumpkin puree would make an oatmeal pumpkin bite. How about date puree. Just think of items that would have the same consistency as the pureed banana.

Pumpkin is a great idea! I think apple sauce would make for a different consistency but it could be really tasty. A date or prune puree could work too. Lots of interesting options. Let us know if you try any!

I'm glad you posted; I'm not a banana fan either. I'll try the dates. Some great ideas for substitutes.

Great ideas! I'll search out the purees this week. Thanks, everyone! Smile

I have tried the pumpkin, as I am a pumpkin lover, but it didn't have enough flavor, and a bit too dry, so I would up the spices the next time and add more apple sauce maybe?
