OK-so to all the once a week weigh in people- I got on the scale and was so disappointed! I did not lose a pound this week. I have to say I see some real positives-feel lighter, stomach seems to be alittle slimmer, more energy and feel healthier. I think I am going to measure my waist and see how that goes. I did have some food that was not on the menus (esp. snacks) but they were all vegan. BUT the big thing for me is my son is getting married next July and I have about 70 lbs. to lose (5'5 210lbs.) so I know this will be a slow process. ANY suggestions or comfort would be greatly appreciated!!

Keep at it and make sure you're getting enough calories! I know that sounds weird but if you're not eating enough, your body will hold onto calories to avoid a perceived "starvation" situation. I'm finding in this last week that I have to really concentrate on adding a snack here and there to make sure I stay above 1200 calories - good stuff like fruit, veggies, and sometimes a small handful of whole almonds, that sort of thing. The thing is, with all the whole fruits, veggies, whole grains, etc I feel full without as many calories (which is a good thing) but I have to make sure to add snacks later on (whether it's the suggested snack du jour, a previous snack idea, or simply a piece of fruit).

Be sure to eat a bit of something healthy every four hours during the day. That will rev up your metabolism and prevent starvation binges. The other thing is exercise. Find an activity you like, and stick to it. Avoid fad diets and quick fixes. They don't work, and can harm your health. When it comes to weight loss, slow and steady wins the race.

Thank you both for your advice. Should I be counting calories? I do tend to go long periods of time without food which isn't good for my metabolism plus I have hypo. thyroid. I do also need to start exercising!

you can but basically it sounds like you just need to remember to eat on a regular basis. I have a set routine: 7 am (ish), 9:30-10 am, noonish, 2:30ish, and 5:30ish, with a snack around 8 pm if my blood sugar is low (which sometimes happens if I have too little carb and a nice long workout on the treadmill). The snacks are pretty simple: a piece of fruit, a serving of yogurt (was dairy, now looking to find a non-dairy yogurt that I like), some whole grain crackers, a handful of whole almonds, etc.

The thing that always ALWAYS gets me in weight loss are the fat grams. I find they sneak in. If you weight is stuck, as Susan told me, avoid empty calorie drinks, watch the avocado, olives, nut butters etc. When I did that I lost 2 pounds last week.

Always offer kindness and a soft word to the beings around you; You do not know their journey. Your words can be the hug they need or the shove that breaks them.
