Hallo, I live in The Netherlands. I don't write English very well. But I cab read and understand it. This is my first Kickstart. I am vegetarian for about 30 years. But I like to be vegan. But it is difficult to begin with it an to go further. I hope this helps me. It is so difficult because I like cheese and eggs. And I get hungry when I don't eat it. Better;hungry-feelings. Have a good time and thank you for reading! Johanna

Johanna Welcome JohannaThat's one of the great things about the kickstart - no limits on how much. If you feel hungry, eat something. Lots of ideas for quick snacks - hummus, veggies, fruit, etc. - that don't include dairy. --Deb R

My thought is do a vegan day or two or three by purchasing a small amount of things to add to what you already have. There are some things that last a long time, but are a bit more than the 'regular' food. Or you don't even have to buy the pricy if you go for the beans & rice. So try a new recipe..and not go for the whole shubang? Maybe a day or two and not a major shop? just my thoughts.. you have to do what is right for you.. but we will be here when you need us.. for planning or for recipes or questions.. best to you! Thanks for the tip. Last night I actually had a vegan meal. I had a pie pumpkin I bought in November and never used. I baked it and mashed it with some clementines, cinamon, vegan "butter," nutmeg and soy milk. I made the brown rice and had "duck" that I found in the grocery store while looking for some "instant" vegan foods to have on hand when I'm too hungry to wait for the food to cook. It was really good. The "duck" was a bit odd tasting, but I think that's because I didn't jazz it up with my own spices. One of the things I found funny about the "duck" is there was "skin" on it. It was hilarious! The manufacturer actually put a layer of soy protein on top of the chunks that was dimpled to look like the impressions of the removed feathers! Question: I've got brewers yeast that I used for my yogurt and other things. Can I use that instead of nutritional yeast? When I bought it, I didn't know it WASN'T "nutritional" yeast. Now I know the difference, but want to use this up before I buy the nutritional yeast. Is that a good idea or should I buy the nutritional yeast and just use both? Thanks.

hi teresa.. i think brewers yeast & nutrional yeast are two completely different things. brewers yeast raises bread. i see people add nutrional yeast for a cheesy taste..and it appears for b-12. I don't think they are interchangeable. Boy if you want fast.. there is nothing faster or cost effective as one of those cold salads.. something with beans, rice or couscous, and veggies. Make it one day and eat it 2 or 3 days!! Open a container.. done! Just find a favorite or two and you are good to go.

I'm new to plant based eating. I tried to go with raw food about a year ago, but it was so hard to give up the warmth. My son told me about the kickstart and my husband and I are off to a good start. I thought we would follow the plan to the T, but the first three days seem very similar without variety. So I stopped being so in my head, and made stir fry veggies over rice and we loved it. I really wanted to follow the plan exact, but we will give it our best. We love green smoothies for breakfast and will try to incorporate them in the plan. Both my husband and I need to loose quite a bit of weight.

Brewer's yeast is, as the name indicates, related to the beer making industry. Baking yeast is used to leaven breads and such. Nutritional yeast comes in capsules and flakes - the flakes are what you want for cooking with. --Deb R

This is my third try at the kickstart, and I did really well the first time, and really terribly the second time, and this time I really want it to stick. I've been reading the forum the last couple of days, but I thought I should bite the bullet and join in.

Susan, I am trying to contact staff about a documentary we are making about the upcoming April kickstart, here in eastern Canada. There is a topic thread about it: An Unlikely Vegan. A kind member of the forums gave me the jeannem@pcrm.org email, but she is out of town. Her auto reply referred me to psullivan@pcrm.org but I am not having luck getting through. You are staff, right? Would you be able to provide me with a direct contact to the organization? You can find me at gryphonpro@mac.com Thanks for you help.
