I'm getting married!

Hey fellow veggies Smile

So, I'm getting married this coming Christmas Eve (I just got engaged, but we thought it would be nice to surprise the whole family on Christmas Eve since everyone will be together). What does this have to do with going vegan? Well, getting married also means fitting into a wedding dress!

My goal is to lose 15 pounds by Christmas Eve (perhaps sooner if it's doable for dress alterations). For the past week, I've eaten TONS of beans, lentils, quinoa, usually rolled oats and blueberries for breakfast, and I'm making it a point to add at least 2 cups of raw, leafy greens (romaine, spinach, etc.) into my diet daily.

People constantly say "carbs are the devil", but if I stay away from them in processed form (no bread, etc.), do you all think 15 pounds is possible? I still enjoy sweet potatoes and the occasional standard potato, but would it be smart to cut those out as well?

My main concern is I want to make sure I'm getting proper nutrition and actually enjoying my food while also seeing progress. For example, last night I had garlic fries (baked) as my reward for eating so well all week.

Anyway, all tips would be GREATLY appreciated! Happy eating, everyone! Smile

Congratulations!!!!!!

Okay here is my nonprofessional opinion. Stay away from fat. Stay away from refined and processed foods. Eat whole vegan foods, lots of fiber, exercise and I think you will be an amazing bride!!

Always offer kindness and a soft word to the beings around you; You do not know their journey. Your words can be the hug they need or the shove that breaks them.

Thanks for the tips! Sweet potatoes are like a vegan's candy, definitely. Smile

Someone suggested I give up grains and sweet potatoes because either way, they're still "just carbs", but I can't imagine it would be a very healthy, well-balanced diet to live off off black beans and veggies.

After a week of being vegan again, I feel leaner and healthier, but I definitely want to lose weight in a sustainable way while still seeing some decent results by Christmas. Wink

Maybe I'm just too impatient! Rolling Eyes

I would say to concentrate on eating a healthy lowfat vegan diet, and exercise consistently. You want to start your married life as healthy as possible, rather than focusing on a number on the scale. The weight will take care of itself as a result of healthy habits.

This is just anecdotal information, but here goes, anyway: When I was 42 years old, I weighed 190 pounds at 5'4". I started walking at least 30 minutes every day and gave up all added fats in my diet. I still ate meat at the time, but no eggs, and skim milk only - no 2%. I ate all the bread I wanted, just no butter or peanut butter on top. I lost more than 50 pounds in six months. So if you stick with it, I do believe it is definitely do-able. Everyone's experience will be different, but I'd definitely say that 15 pounds is possible-- unless you are already skinny, that is.

Don't make a New Year's Resolution...make a Decision!
