Curious if anyone recommends Marmite as a source of B12...

You can count it if it's on the label, which it is. It's kinda high in sodium though. http://www.marmite.com/hate/nutrition/nutrition.html

Red Star Nutritional Yeast is also a reliable source. I think they recently changed the name of that to Lynside, but our bulk bin still says Red Star. (Other brands may or may not be; check labels.) I use this quite a bit, as a parmesan cheese substitute and seasoning for other things.

Also, almost all soymilks are fortified with B12, and some other plant milks.

Thanks! I also have Brewer's Yeast from Lewis Labs that is a good parmesan substitute.

I've been curious about Marmite too. One cooking show I watched used a rounded tablespoon of it as an enhancer in a broth. I'd only ever seen it used as a spread on bread before that show.

Speaking of sodium content, Braggs All Purpose Liquid Soy Seasoning is super high in sodium (960 mgs/tbsp) - higher than regular soy sauce. It is gluten and preservative free and not fermented. Is this supposed to make it a better option? Thoughts?

Yeah, I don't really see the point of Bragg's unless you are a raw foodist or avoiding gluten. But tamari is also made wheat free, and I get a reduced sodium one. It's less sodium than regular or Bragg's but still pretty high. I think it's 770 per tbs.

Marmite stirred into a broth seems a lot like the method for miso soup. Never thought of that before though.

I use nutrional yeast, not brewers. I was told that was a better choice over brewer's. I love the nutty, cheesy flavor of it sprinkled over cooked veggies or in potatoes! Also, I use San-J's reduced sodium tamari soy sauce. One tablespoon has 700 mg. sodium (29%), but certainly lower than the regular. I really enjoy sprinkling it over my tofu veggie scrambles!
