Lani

I'm not sure if I agree with tip number 1.

If I understood correctly, it's like telling people it's OK to smoke cigarettes once a year. I think it could re-kindle the addiction. And then snowball the patient back down to the fiery depths.

Theodore,

Could be for you that it's best to never indulge! Each person finds their own best avenue on this one. For some to say "never again" is too problematic, and at the same time if they nibble every day, they are keeping the taste for that processed and stimulating stuff alive constantly and never going through 're-alimentation'.

Hope you are having a great holiday season and thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Great post Lani.

I especially enjoyed number 5, to do with food pushers. I actually have some tips about this matter which I'll probably post on your blog if you and the others here think it's helpful at all.

This first tactic is one I often use when I don't know the person very well. It's kind of obvious, so you've probably heard it before but I'll say it anyway. Basically, you ask the person whether the item has got gluten in it. If they say "yes", you say, "I'm sorry, I'm allergic to gluten." If they say "no, it's gluten-free", you say, "I'm sorry, I need gluten."

I'll post some more suggestions when I get time.

I just refused a doughnut on the grounds that I'm allergic to nuts.

since most baked goodies contain some combo of eggs, dairy, and shortening, non-specific "cholesterol issues" ("the dr. said to watch eggs, dairy and shortening") will get you out of just about anything short of a nice vegan cupcake Smile

Fortunately, 'food pushers' are not my main problem - I am! Confused

But what if your doctor's the one offering you the doughnut ?

I'm not saying that was the case in this instance, but I like to use an excuse that I can give in all circumstances.

That's why I prefer the nut excuse. The amount of time my doctor spent learning about nutrition I doubt she'd know that doughnuts aren't true nuts.
