Raisins

Hi
I am not a BIG raisin fan. I can eat them in salads.. like the Confetti one or Broccoli salad... but not so much in puddings.
I see raisins are used in quite a bit of recipes. I am wondering if i should just suck it up cause they are super good for me. Are they low in sugar and super good for me?

Can i use some other dried fruit. I looked at packages. I found many dried fruit has added sugar. I did find apricots that don't add more sugar.

So is there any prefered dried fruit other than just raisins so I could mix it up a little? I am looking to reduce sugar intake and lose some weight.

You do not have to eat raisins if you don't like them. There are so many delicious fruits out there, why force it? The benefit of dried fruit often is how long they last; they are easy to carry; they are easy to store.

Just watch out for added sugar to dried fruits. Go for the natural version.

yes, it does take some looking to make sure that there's no added sugar and such to dried fruit. Raisins in small quantities make a nice sweet bite but they can add a lot of sugar on their own (since it's concentrated grapes). I like adding raisins to cereals because of that sweetness without adding sugars of any sort.
My 12 yr old son likes to take leftover cold rice and add raisins, cinnamon, and a little almond milk, warm it in the microwave and have that for breakfast. Then, lo and behold, I saw virtually the same thing on one of the menus!

lol. As a rule i don't like one food that you do something to and it gets a new name.. grape to raisins as an example.

humm .. i don't see raisins as sweet, not even a little. My taste buds are changing a little with all the "new" flavors.

I love CRAISINS! Every morning I have:

1/2 cup dry old fashion oatmeal
1/8 cup dry cranberries
10 drops almond extract (I use an eyedropper)
1/2 cup non fat vanilla soy milk

Pop it in the microwave if I'm not in a hurry. It's so good tasting....Elizabeth

Wow - raisins seem quite sweet to me, but not in the same way as honey or sugar is sweet. It's a deeper sweet (if that's the proper way to put it). Kind of the way vegetables and fruits can be sweet (squash, sweet potato, carrots, and such).

You can also mix the oatmeal ingredients and pop them in the fridge overnight - then either heat or eat cold (nice in the summer heat)

I watch my sugar intake, so I checked on the Craisins. They have added sugar, and contain 140 calories, and 30 grams of sugar per 1/3 cup serving. That would be too much for me, but each of you would need to decide your own personal needs, of course!

I also don't eat dried fruit, due to the concentrated sugar, though I will occasionally add it to a recipe if it's absolutely necessary. I prefer my fruit fresh! Very Happy

yep i think if i want pudding w/fruit, it will have to be fresh, frozen or canned in it's own juice w/no added sugar.
again... i do like the raisins in salad.. so i will get them there and even enjoy them.
