This is my first time becoming a vegan. Anyone have a good receipe for baked beans? Also, any suggestions on a substitute for butter, something to put on bread?

Hello,

I live just outside of Edmonton Alberta, and at the Supre Store I found a product called Earth Balance, looks like butter/Marg I use this for toast or on my potatoes and veggies Smile Hope this Helps!

I use Smart Balance Light, which is also vegan. It tastes like regular butter to me.

I like the Smart Balance Light, too. I go easy on it though because it's still "fat". Sometimes I even just use fruit spread...I've come to like organic blueberry jam a lot!

Hummus is great on toast and gives you a protein kick in the morning. Smile

Try mashing a banana (with or without a little agave if you have a sweet tooth) and using that as a spread. You can also do that with an apple cooked in the microwave until very soft, sprinkle with cinnamon. OMG.

Tofutti makes a vegan cream cheese (get the nonhydrogenated version) but it's a processed food and still kinda high fat, so I don't use it much anymore. Great for transitioning though!

Earth Balance is vegan and pretty tasty (though yeah, high fat and processed). I think not all of the Smart Balance varieties are, but some are, so be sure to check to make sure.
