I start the vegan program, but gained a little weight. I have gone back to weight watchers to help me get in better control. I don't eat cheese or dairy products anymore, but if I eat to many starches seem to put the weight on. Any suggestions on how to start losing a little weight. I do exercise a couple of days a week at a gym. I like the 21 day kick start program and plan to continue as want to lower my cholesterol.

I know the vegan diet is the healthest way to go.

What is your intake of fats and oils?

This happened to me at first too and I am still at WW for the behavioral changes I need. Here are a few things I discovered:

1)Beans are not my best friend no matter how much I love them they seem to make me retain water. I have to limit them to 1/2C and not everyday. Lentils are not as harsh(for me at least).

2)Imitation meats have the same effect and they can be creepy sometimes.

3)Higher fiber has to be built up slowly and I MUST drink 6-8 glasses of water to help this get through my system.

4)Fritos are vegan. My point is that not all vegan foods are good for us.

5)Whole grain and vegetables will NEVER do you wrong but if you are eating those and still gaining, measure stuff. I know they say that vegans do not need to weigh and measure, however if you need to do that to get to a weight you are comfortable with, go ahead. Make your recipes and count the servings so your not going crazy with points.

Good luck I am still learning everyday that I am not like anyone else on this journey, listen to your body see what works for you. Faith

Faithella: Thank you for your comments. They are very helpful. I am learning, but it is a slow process. I have limite my fats to almost none at this time and I will weight and measure my food.
Thanks again for the good advice.

veveveveggie: I have been watching my fats really close last weeks. The only fat I have gotten this last week was from what is in melba toast and it helps me survive until lunch at school.

I am using lemon juice on salads now and find that works as salad dressing have to many fats. I have also found if I limit my carb in take it seems to be helping. I lossed a pound when I weighed this morning. I am learning and will not give up. Thanks for asking about fats.
