Polycystic Ovarian Disease (PCOS/PCOD)

I am interested to know, does anyone else here have PCOS?

This plan is like a miracle for me. I am 50 years old and have been overweight since High School. I have had the ability to lose weight and have in the past, but it has always been a huge miserable struggle and I've ended up crying a lot! AND the weight always came back on and then some. On this plan I am happy, feel full of energy, don't feel deprived. I wonder if this is somehow related to PCOS.

I'd be interested in hearing how this works for you!

I have PCOS. I went to a dermatologist about my hair loss, and she directed me to PCRM and told me to try a vegan diet before anything else. I also have diabetes. I'm crossing my fingers that this is going to help!

I too have PCOS and have struggled with my weight for years. I'm not diabetic - yet! however, I am on metformin for the PCOS. I'm hoping that this way of eating (I'm not calling it a diet) will help me get off all my medications. Thanks for the link, I'll read it later.

I didn't have PCOS, but I had severe endometriosis along with adhesions, ovarian and uterine cysts. I was scheduled for a hysterectomy 6 years ago and was told I would never have kids.

Luckily, a friend helped me switch to the vegan diet and I have fully recovered. The diet has been a miracle for me and has also helped improve the other health conditions I had (hypoglycemia, fibroid cysts, high cholesterol, OCD, etc...). I am even 4 months pregnant now Smile

I wish you all luck - remember to stay off the dairy!

Hi veggies - I finally found this post you mentioned. As you know, I have PCOS, and after going vegan for 14 days, I can say I feel good and my skin is great. Oh, and I'm losing weight without even trying. Yay!

I think the fun part has been planning the menu. I don't have a lot of time to "cook" or prepare meals, so I was a little worried about that aspect of it. I've been relying on my SO or mom (who lives with us now) to plan and prep most meals. The are both carnivores....LOL So far, it's been okay. Last night was the only time I splurged with a few bites of chocolate cake for Anthony's (SOs) birthday. He wanted to go to Black Angus for dinner and I immediately thought, what the heck am I going to eat there?

With some creative thinking I pulled together the following:

Started of with a house salad, with oil and vinegar on the side.
Main meal was a baked potato topped with grilled onions and baby portabello mushrooms, and sides of steam broccoli and grilled asparagus. Asked for no butter - it was soooo good. The table shared a piece of chocolate cake for dessert and I limited myself to three small bites.

I don't believe I "suffer" from PCOS. It is merely something that I have to manage. This vegan journey is one way that I am telling my body - I love you.

I'm glad your doing so good with this too. I've lost 35+ pounds since Jan.1 and feel great too! I really wonder if there's some link between this diet and the PCOS. My parents and husband are so happy to see the changes in me. I told them that I wish I knew years ago to eat this way -- I wouldn't have any problem being thin and healthy! I hope the other PCOS compadres are doing as well!

I personally don't believe there is one type of "diet" that everyone with PCOS can follow. You'll get a variety of opinions with no clear answers. My focus is to control my blood sugar, manage my weight (I'm actually looking forward to the weigh-in tomorrow), and overall well being. Here's to another fantastic week of kickstart!
