detox..

hi all,
it looks like i have been saving up my questions huh?
i have been a little busy cutting veggies.. haa haa

anyway.. i have seen many threads that mention detox. people feel bad cause they think they are detoxing. maybe i dunno?

my sister in law (vegan/vegetarian) says before she starts any new eating plan or even every once in a while she detoxes her liver. i don't know details.. but from what i gather it is a 3 day process w/liquids.

Me. i am figuring. i eat right and my body will take care of it on it's own. it might take a couple of weeks? but i will get there.

is there any benefit to a fasting/liquid detox program? is there any real use for it at all?

I don't think a 3-day detox is a bad thing. The practice of fasting dates back for centuries. However, I don't think it is necessary if you have a healthful diet. And it certainly isn't going to help if you go right back to a poor diet.

In summary, there's no harm. But probably unnecessary for a low-fat, vegan eater.

What if you were a meat eater who starts eating vegan?

She wanted to detox because she just bought a house, has been eating out a lot, still vegetarian, just not as healthful as home made food.

thanks.

I don't think it's a BAD idea. But the most important part will be what happens after the fast. She may enjoy Kathy Freston's book (one of our Kickstart coaches), The Quantum Wellness Cleanse.
