Wheat Belly
Posted Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at 12:02 AM

I just saw this clip from the CBS news

http://www.washingtonsblog.com/2012/10/wheat-even-if-whole-grain-and-organic-wheat-now-contains-an-opiate-which-causes-obesity.html

Dr William Davis claims that modern wheat is very different from the wheat our grandparents ate (it changed in the 1950's, 1960's) and should be eliminated from our diets completely. Even the whole grain variety.

Has anyone read his book called What Belly? What do you all think?

I may have just answered my own question as I found this blog after posting.

I would have responded saying there is no science to back up Wheat Belly's claims. But looks like you found that answer already!

Celiac disease is a real thing and for some, so is wheat sensitivity, but his sweeping claims are unfounded.

Hi Kiwi - I read the book a while ago as several co-workers (all educators) were following his theories and his plan. All I can say is I'm glad I borrowed the book from the library and didn't contribute to his bank account. What a load of pap. He had me for the first 150 pages but soon had me exclaiming, "What the...?!" more often than not. And the food plan is outrageous - nothing more than a modern day twist on the Atkins diet, in my opinion. Steer clear. (without the "steer" Smile)

Thanks Susan and Mariberry,

One of the tings I love about this kickstart forum is that I can ask questions about food related issues from knowledgeable people I trust who have done their research.

Unfortunately when it comes to food and diets anyone can write anything and few people challenge them.
