"non dairy" creamer
Posted Friday, September 17, 2010 at 10:23 AM
While waiting for my oatmeal to cook at work this morning, I picked up a shaker of creamer to look at the ingredients. Sodium caseinate was listed. Then below the ingredients, it said, "Contains: milk, soy." I assume that's allergy information. I know casein is derived from milk. But then, at the bottom of the package, I noticed: "This is a non-dairy creamer." Wait a minute... you just told me it contains milk, so how can it be non-dairy? This is why I don't eat things I can't pronounce.

The "non-dairy" creamer alternate universe label. Isn't it fun?

Thanks for pointing that out. I don't touch the stuff anyway ... too many chemicals. But I know some people who think it's non-dairy and ok in coffee. They need to know.

I don't touch it because the oils/fats they use in it usually mess with my digestion in ugly ways. --Deb

haven't tried Daiya yet. Found Galaxy vegan rice based cheese last night at the market so I'm going to try that one - got the cheddar variety to "benchmark" with before we move on to others like mozzarella for hubby's home made whole wheat pizza. --Deb

I just discovered Daiya and thankfully it hasn't affected me in a negative way. I only tried the cheddar flavor, but really enjoyed it. It melts nicely and tastes as close to real cheddar as anything I've found.

The BEST non-dairy creamer is "So Delicious". You can find it at Whole Foods. It's made with coconut milk (but is surprisingly fat free). It tastes JUST like half & half. I even have all of my non-vegan friends using it!

I agree, I thought I would not be able to become completely vegan because I would miss the milk in my coffee but So Delicious has saved me!
