Bariatric Surgery

I had bariatric surgery a few years ago (it didn't help much) and although I don't suffer from many of the common limitations (I have no problems with spicy or raw foods) I was just wondering if there are anything special I need to take into consideration. I stopped seeing my bariatric doctor and nutritionist shortly after the surgery because they wouldn't listen to me when I told them shakes like slim-fast and processed energy bars made me sick. My GP is great and already knows I eat vegan but we haven't had an appointment since I initially told her about the diet change.

How is your system at handling high fiber (beans, grains, lentils, leafy greens, etc)? That's a big part of the kickstart so, unless you know how you do with those foods, you might want to pay particular attention to the Tip on the main page today about handling the higher fiber intake.

Actually, I do really well with high fiber foods even though I was told I wouldn't tolerate them well. The only things I cannot eat are very highly processed foods.

Sounds like you are pretty savvy about dietary choices. Depending on the exact surgery, you do want to make sure you are absorbing all of your essential nutrients. That may mean a supplement on a regular basis. That's something you can discuss with your physician. To your question though, a vegan diet is a perfectly healthful choice.
