RE: Concerned about butter substitutes

Hello, I understand your situation. We do not recommend oils at all in the diet because they are all 100% fat, regardless of how "healthy" they claim to be. If you're strictly looking for a vegan butter substitute, Earth Balance tastes almost exactly the same as real butter. However, it is made from oil and is also 100% fat. So, in that regard we don't recommend it for cancer, diabetes, heart disease or any kind of disease prevention. Fat in the diet can add to body weight and stimulate reproduction of certain types of cancer cells. Plus, even good oils contain saturated fats to some degree and these can increase blood cholesterol levels. Using regular butter can have even more drawbacks. Since regular butter is a dairy product, there is increased cancer risk associated with dairy products. Our recommendation is to get fat from whole foods. Whole plant foods contain 5-10% fat (on average), with nuts, avocados, olives and some other being higher fat. Our bodies need about 6% of our calories from fat, so a plant-based diet can provide plenty. If you feel like you need more, then we recommend you start from whole foods that are higher fat, like those I mentioned above. I hope this helps - let us know if you have more questions!
