Vegan Boca Burger?
Posted Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at 1:47 PM
Can anyone tell me if it says "Vegan " on the box ? I've looked at them , but cannot seem to find the one with no dairy/egg. Thanks. Just 2 days in and feeling great already ! More energy and appropriately tired at end of day.

Yes, there is one variety of Boca that says "Vegan" on the front of the box. There is also an organic "Vegan" Boca variety. http://www.wakeupdiet.com/wud_art/boca_sm.png

Most store bought or processed "veggie burgers" contain some form of milk powder or egg white, and worse, are processed using hexane, a neurotoxin and petroleum byproduct. There are a couple, such as "Amy's" brand bistro burgers that are vegan and are not processed with hexane. But the truth is, they just don't taste that great. You'd do much better to find a good recipe online and make your own and freeze some for nights when you don't want a hassle.

Had to LOL a little - hubby deliberately makes the patties the right size to fit into a peanut butter jar (washed out) so they are easier to store. He just stacks the leftovers from dinner into a jar in the fridge! --Deb R

They are so delicious and as you can tell by the ingredients, much better than the average veggie burger patty.

Tonight I'm making vegan beans'n'franks with creamy coleslaw (using homemade no-fat mayo) and sauteed gai lan but tomorrow I'm going to try black bean and brown rice burgers smothered in bone suckin'rib sauce.

That's the biggest reason we just make our own; so many vegan burger patties contain soy and more sodium in one patty than we use in half a day (we try to keep sodium at or under 1000 mg for hubby's hypertension - at the same time, we also try to get lots of potassium in to balance it)--Deb R

I'll probably try making my own at some point, but in the meantime I'm really liking the Wildwood Sproutofu southwestern veggie burgers I picked up at Whole Foods.
