I try not to get on this soap box too often because people really get worked up about thier soda...but PEOPLE PLEASE! I don't know why we have artificial sweetners to begin with but if they are so addictive they have defeated thier purpose. Do you feel better after a soda...bloated uncomfortable and still thirsty? I admit I still have one cup of coffee in the morning with soy milk out of sheer addiction but the rest of the day is water and herbal tea (fruit blends for me, no sugar). Try this: give up the soda for 1 week nad then have one, see if you still like the feeling you get after you drink it. My son (25y/o)wound up in the hospital with myocarditis (inflamation around the heart) about 4-5 months ago after getting swine flu; but before they could tell if it was a heart attach or not they evaluated his diet including soda of more than 48 oz a day and smoking. The doctors of course told him to quit smoking but he was suprized when they said to get the soda out competely if he intends to stay out of the cardiac unit. He is still 25, rebounded quickly but the scare has scared him straight with an occasional caffine free soda but hardly the volume it was. I can not stress all bad things in soda but if you read the soda section in "Skinny Bitch" (just hang out at the book store or the library and give it a read) they may scare you out of ever touching the stuff.
