blood pressure

here's just a little anecdote.
ive never had an issue with blood pressure. as far as i know its always been about normal. i do have high blood pressure on both sides of my family though.

i went for a check up wtih my sleep dr (recovering from serious sleep disorder) a couple weeks ago and they always take your pulse and blood pressure.

the nurse was like "is your blood pressure always this low at this time?"
and i was like "ehhhh.......i dunno no one has ever said anything to me either way"

he said my blood pressure was like exemplary. that was about 3 months after starting the vegan diet Very Happy

Hubby's blood pressure (as measured at home, it always goes a bit up at the dr's office) has been much better since I started the September kickstart. he's the head cook in our house and we discussed things for over a month beforehand (I'd read him excerpts from Reversing Diabetes by Dr Barnard). He just had blood work done a few days ago so we're waiting to see where his lipid levels are compared to last time 6 months ago (just after the kickstart).

Deb, I'm curious what his levels are. I just had my done after being lowfat and processed sugar free for 6 months. All my levels dropped. Not as much as I thought they would. Total from 213 to 192. All others down too even my HDL from 54 to 45. That was disappointing.

As I noted, we're waiting for the results so we'll see. HDL tends to drop if your activity level drops - it increases with exercise and not much else - it's hard to increase that. His HDL is always low while the LDL is high. Triglycerides have been better since we moved from omni to vegetarian 5 or 6 years ago and I suspect they'll be even better this time.

I keep wishing I could transfuse some of my cholesterol profile into him. I've got good genes and my doctor basically ignores the total cholesterol value - my HDL averages around 65 (it's been as low as 55, as high as 75), my LDL has been hovering somewhere between 85-100. Triglycerides are typically very good.
