Best way to eat watercress?
Posted Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at 2:23 PM

Yesterday I added watercress to my green smoothie. But I didn't like the taste at all. Then I read up online where it says it comes from the mustard leaves, turnip family which explains its pungent taste. Also, I have read that the best way to consume it is raw. So cooking it is out of question. So any suggestions how I can add it to my salads?

Thanks a bunch!!!

Kind Regards

I love watercress in a sandwich, you're right it has a peppery bite. Argula doesn't work well in a green smoothie, either too peppery.

We like it just added to most any sandwich - I don't think I'd add it to anything already strong flavored like hummus (too much clashing spice) but it would probably be really good on something like the chickpea salad we use in place of tuna (crumbled chickpeas, onion, celery, beanaise) or in a salad mix with romaine and spinach and a bunch of other veggies, maybe as a base for a bean salad. We don't eat it often - mostly in the late spring, early summer we might pick up a bit as a change of pace.
